IV. Project Background
The University acquired the Wilshire Center building in March 1993, in order to achieve the following long-term objectives:

1. Control off-campus space occupancy costs

2. Consolidate administrative areas and gain operating efficiencies

3. Vacate unacceptable leased facilities with code (seismic, fire safety, hazardous materials, ADA) and operational deficiencies

4. Reduce future on-campus construction requirements for administrative space

As of July 1, 1998, the building was 99% occupied and fulfilled the goals of the acquisition. Building lease terms are favorable relative to the rental rates and terms currently offered by comparable office buildings. All major Campus administrative units have located to or have a significant presence at the Wilshire Center building.
